Kelly A. Hopkins, soprano, is a graduate of the voice program at Boston University. She has been reviewed as, “outstanding” by Joel Schwindt of the Boston Musical Intelligencer. He went on to say, “Kelly Hopkins, whose rendition of “Ich folge dir/I follow you” (a proclamation of the believer’s faithfulness) displayed not only her vocal power and agility, but also an impressive amount of endurance, as she skillfully navigated Bach’s long-breathed vocal lines.”
Ms. Hopkins is a former student of S. Mark Aliapoulios and Robert Honeysucker. She has been a soloist and featured performer with The Back Bay Chorale, The Providence Singers, The Seraphim Singers, in the Music at Mission concert series, Marsh Chapel Music, Philovox, The Boston Bach Ensemble, Ensemble St. Germain, Trinity Church Copley Square, and many other groups.
She has also been a featured soloist in debuts of new works by composers such as James Yannatos, Julian Wachner, Graham Ramsay, Avner Dorman, and Elliott Gyger. Ms. Hopkins is a regular collaborator with Keith Ciccone, piano & organ, and a regular performer with the Boston Medical Center/BU Arts Lab concert series. She has also been featured as a Patient Ambassador with The Snow Companies, as a part of Epilepsy Foundation New England‘s annual gala fundraiser, and at MIT through Artists Beyond the Desk.
Ms. Hopkins has been heard in the greater Boston area as a soloist in works such as the Fauré Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Bach St. John Passion and Jesu Meine Freude, Poulenc Mass in G, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Pärt Magnificat, as well as with the MIT Libraries house band The Dust Jackets, in the 2006 Halloween performance at the Orpheum with The Disco Biscuits, in backing vocals for Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary, and in various performances with former members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Velvet Underground, and Chanticleer.
Ms. Hopkins sings regularly in churches and houses of worship all over the greater Boston area including The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Church), Mission Hill; Church of Our Saviour, Longwood; St. Paul Parish, Harvard Sq.; St. Peter’s Episcopal, Central Square; St. Charles Borromeo, Waltham, MA; Glendale United Methodist Church, Everett; Trinity Parish, Newton Corner; and King’s Chapel.
