I found another good video on YouTube about rogue waves, and this one actually talks at length about the dangers to offshore platforms and people on shore from rogue waves, using actual recent historical examples.

So an obvious question being asked by fans of GoT/ASOIAF is this: since the sigil of the Targaryens is a dragon with three heads, and since Daenarys Targaryen has three dragons, who are those other two heads? In other words, who will be riding the other two dragons? She’s the last known Targaryen, after all, especially after the deaths of her brother Viserys and her great, great uncle, Maester Aemon.
Truthfully, most people already have a pretty good idea whose those two people will be. I feel something like 90 to 95% certain that I know who they are. So let’s talk about how, at least in terms of the TV show, we will discover that these two individuals are in fact the other two Targaryens.

This post might be a little stream of consciousness. It’s Holy Week, I’m tired, and last night I was exposed to one of the best/worst internet videos of all time.
Well, one of the things that happens when you don’t do a lot of blog posting is that you fall WAY behind on your GoT/ASOIAF commentaries. My bad. Our friend and fellow GRRM fan Patrick is way ahead of me on all things Season Six, and frankly he has helped motivate me a bit (thanks man!).
So, now that life seems to be getting a bit more under control, it’s time for me to start catching up on all that. After all, Season Six starts six weeks from this Sunday. And there is all sorts of stuff to talk about.

I found these recently and thought they were worth sharing.
It seems the cast and crew of Downton Abbey doesn’t mind poking a little fun at themselves for charity.
Kelly and I have been watching this final season of Downton Abbey. I have to say, I have warmed to the show a bit, especially since they have developed some of the characters a little more fully. I am particularly pleased that they have made Thomas Barrow out to be more sympathetic and less of a villain.

In an unlikely combination that could probably only happen in Boston and, specifically, only in Somerville. Geoff and I combined an evening of tasty Tibetan cuisine with a Zombie Opera for our Valentine’s outing.
Really.
You know, there are some new operas that just don’t interest me that much. There’s something uninspired or over academic about some of the stuff that I’ve seen recently that has left me cold.
Then Teri* told me she was auditioning for a Zombie Opera. And I was intrigued.
I have always thought of “Flat Earthers” as something of an insult, something you say about people who cling to long-disproved beliefs (hence the comment by President Obama a few years ago in reference to climate deniers). Honestly, I had no idea that the whole Flat Earth Society thing was making some sort of comeback, but apparently it is. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me, but it does.
Although Seth Myers is not from Boston, he did spend a big chunk of his childhood nearby in New Hampshire. And as a result, he totally gets the whole “Hollywood can’t get the Boston accent right” thing. Admittedly, there have been times that I am watching a movie or a TV show set in Boston and the bad attempts at local accents really get to me – not to mention the brutally mispronounced names of Massachusetts cities and towns – (I am looking at you, Falling Skies).
So seeing this “trailer” was a real treat. He totally gets it.
And the cameo from Rachel Dratch is just… wicked awesome.
