HRC summarizes reasonably well what we’re waiting for when Godot The Supreme Court comes down with their ruling on Prop 8 and on DOMA. Check it out and share it (below the cut). Everyone needs to understand that this is about Civil Rights, not The Homosexual Agenda.
How today’s announcement by NBA player Jason Collins will affect the general atmosphere around the ruling is unclear. He came out and admitted that he is gay. He’s the first pro sports player in one of the four major sports (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) to do this while still playing.

Thomas Jefferson famously said of religion, “But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” I think the same principle applies here, and as I live in Massachusetts I have some authority to speak on the matter. My neighbor’s marriage does not affect mine. Geoff and I are no more or less married if my neighbor is married to a man or a woman.
As the battle lines are drawn and re-drawn people will line up, many along the lines of religious and social boundaries. I am hoping that with today’s announcement the hateful rhetoric from the “Christian right”, which is neither, and the terrified closeted sector of society will lessen.
So now we wait. And hope.
