Today is our 2nd wedding anniversary. Over the past week or so we’ve received cards, emails, voice mails, texts, and calls from family and friends wishing us a happy anniversary.
I suspect that some portion of this has to do with the fact that 1) Geoff was recently hospitalized and 2) our wedding is on Veteran’s Day weekend. Be that as it may, I’ll take it.
The last two years have been hard. Hell, since we moved into this apartment things have pretty much gone steadily downhill. We would not be here today, let alone married, without the support of each and every one of you. There are those of you who shared of your time, those of you who filled in when one of us needed something. Those of you who were there when we needed support, encouragement, or when we couldn’t make rent. Every single one of you has been there for more than the last two years and, in some way, has contributed to the fact that we’re both here today.
That we’re both here today (and that we haven’t killed each other or anyone else is a minor miracle) is thanks to the support we’ve received after each lay off, each bout with governmental red tape, each health scare, each financial crisis, and each time we felt that we just couldn’t do it anymore.
Tonight we’re going out to celebrate the fact that we’re still here, that we’re holding on, and that we’re looking toward a brighter future. Thanks to my brother and an excellent gift certificate, we’re celebrating at our favorite restaurant without fear that doing so will keep us from paying our rent.
So, here’s to us and here’s to you. Happy Anniversary and Thanks.
