Finally, some pictures of the house: the living room.

When we first planned the room, we knew that this room with the fireplace was going to be a room we used a lot since it’s right next to the kitchen. We have called it several things, including the library annex, the warming room, the media room, and the living room. The room has both our sofa and a love seat, plus my slide rocker (which I have become quite attached to) and several pet beds. It also contains the stereo and other electronics, a TV, my Xbox 360, and all of our music CD collection.

Our CD collection is quite large and in fact we are probably going to have to find another set of drawers to give us more room.
One of the Advent speakers sits on top of the stereo cabinet. My Keith Rocco print is on the wall behind it, and the photo of the two Civil War soldiers from the 9th Kentucky, a unit that I have researched for decades, mounted above the open wall to the kitchen. Finding and identifying that photo made me famous in certain history circles.
The bookcase is FULL of my Civil War and 19th century American history books (hence the room being the library annex) and has the other Advent speaker. There are a couple of 19th century maps and a gorgeous big document that belonged to a Pennsylvania Civil War veteran.

This window looks out over the tiny strip between us and our neighbor Mary’s yard. Her bird feeders are visible from this window and so both Brienne and Violet like to sit on the cat tree or on the sill to watch kitty TV. This cat tree is one of Brienne’s favorite places in the house. She sleeps somewhere on the tree almost daily.

Between the cat tree and the corner of the room sits my reproduction Civil War field desk with a closed 19th century lap desk on top. The camp chair Kelly repaired is stored in that corner next to a candle stand we saved from an Episcopal church that wanted to find a new home for it.

The broadside is from Parson Brownlow’s tour of the North in the spring and summer of 1862, and the small print of him is from Harper’s Weekly from that time. The speaker wire for the surround sound is exposed because there was nowhere for it to go.

This window looks into our back yard. Kelly usually sits on this couch when we are in this room and I sit in my rocker.

On this wall, (starting clockwise from lower left) is a photo of Major General William Starke Rosecrans, mounted above his autograph. Then my Don Troiani print of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain when he was a lieutenant colonel, then a photo of Sojourner Truth mounted above her commemorative stamp, then a photo of Harriet Tubman, then three excellent facsimiles of antislavery broadsides from Boston in the 1850’s.  The couch is covered with dachshund pillows (used by dachshunds AND they have pictures of dachshunds on them) plus a couple of blankets. Lilo LOVES to sit up there with Kelly.

Nymeria enjoyed the first fire of the season last weekend.

So it’s a start! I will do another 1st floor room sometime soon.
