A post in which I am furious

Ok, folks.  I know we’ve been been married for slightly more than a month and that some of you might find this slightly confusing, so let me lay it out for you.

Mrs. Geoffrey Michael doesn’t live here.  In fact, she doesn’t exist.

Mrs. Michael is Geoff’s mom.  Or possibly one of Geoff’s two sisters in law.  She is patently NOT me.

Mrs. Hopkins is my mother.

I am Ms. Kelly Hopkins.

I did not take Geoff’s last name.  I am not going to take Geoff’s last name.

Assuming that I did or that I am going to is ignorant, rude and, at best, old fashioned.  I am tired of having to explain over and over again to the same people that I am still, and shall remain, Ms. Kelly Hopkins. Interestingly, Geoff’s tired of it as well.  He’s also completely fine with the fact that I kept my name and we’re the only two people in the whole world to whom this should matter.  Hm.  Funny how that works.

For those of you who were at the wedding and were paying attention we were consistently announced as Geoff and Kelly.  At no point were we announced as Mr. & Mrs. MichaelThere was a reason for that

Furthermore:

From this point forward mail addressed to Mrs. Geoffrey Michael, Geoffrey & Kelly Michael, or Mr. & Mrs. Geoffrey Michael shall be returned to sender unopened.

I am offended that people so casually disregard my intent and my very identity.  This is who I am, who I choose to be, and who I shall remain.  If you have a problem with it, keep it to yourself.

Comments are not allowed on this post.  This is not open for discussion and this is not up for debate.

This is just precious, precious I tell you.

Those of you who know us know that Geoff and I HATE to fly.  I’m generally not a fan of traveling, but I specifically hate to fly.  It isn’t that I dislike planes or have a problem with a fear of flying or anything like that.  It’s the TSA.  I hate the TSA with the fiery passion of a 1,000 suns.

So.. about that university job…

Yeah, I don’t have it any more.  I completed my 90 day probationary period, and they decided not to keep me.  Needless to say I was stunned.  The general consensus seems to be that there was some sort of personality conflict.  Certainly my boss never warmed to me at all.

So anyway, now I am back to looking for work again, and as you can imagine, I am just thrilled about it (not).  At least Kelly has had a lot of good interviews lately.  I am going to try to keep working on more certifications, and personal networking, and whatever else I can do to keep me busy and constructive.

If only this was more common

Geoff here – obviously there are a lot of problems with the Catholic Church these days, and it is because of many of these problems that I left the church and became Episcopalian.  That being said, I think it is highly encouraging that not all Catholics agree with the rampant homophobic prejudice that is running throughout the Church.  An article today on Boston.com talks about one priest who is taking a stand for inclusion, and good for him.  Remember, the arguments made against integrating the races in Catholic churches were just as flawed.  History was not kind to the racial bigots in the Catholic ranks, and it is not going to be kind to the homophobic bigots.

I have much to talk about later including my recent shopping victories and my job interview yesterday, but for right now it’s LOLcats.  I think the Crazy Screaming Fiendish Monkey Children I taught last night ate my brain.  Or, at least, my ability to think for myself.  Damn, I hope they didn’t turn me into Sarah Palin, I’d better check on that.

Anyway, here they are.

Finally, some new pictures!

Geoff and our friend Amanda and I went to the Deval Patrick and Barack Obama rally on Saturday October 16th.  We waited in line for HOURS.  It was unusually cold and even Geoff was freezing.  I was convinced that we’d never get in to the rally and, despite the photo it was not all smiles.

We did eventually get inside.  We got to see Vicki Kennedy, Mayor Menino, John Kerry, Deval Patrick, and the Leader of the Free World, President Barack Obama.  Oh, and James Taylor spoke and played and we all sang along.  It was exhausting but fun.  I’ve added some pictures below of various speakers.  I’m going to upload the full set of edited photos to shutterfly in a little while and I’ll add the link here.
