A picture is worth a thousand words

When the picture is done properly.

I used to work in the retail and online auction industry.  In fact, sometimes I was responsible for actually taking the pictures and photo editing them so that they could be put up online to sell stuff.  That’s why when this photo showed up in my inbox the other day I literally had to do a double take.

It took a while, but winter may finally be here

When I got up this morning,it was pretty cold in the house.  I turned on a wall heater in our bedroom that we rarely use, gave the animals their breakfast (and in some cases morning medicines) and headed upstairs.  Right now according to Weatherbug on the computer  the temperature outside is about 3.3 degrees, with a windchill of -15 degrees.  It is not supposed to get above 20 degrees today, and tonight the temperature is going to plummet yet again.

Now all we need is some snow and maybe it will start to feel like a normal winter around here.

Happy Friday the 13th

When each Friday the 13th rolls around I know I’m going to get a version of the following email from the good folks at Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.  If you don’t know who they are, click on over and spend some good quality time there.  They sell amazing fragrances and things made from essential oils and their Black Phoenix Trading Post has some outstanding items, especially jewelry.  Go ahead.  I’ll wait.

Read this and earn a million dollars! No real effort required!

Just kidding.  We haven’t been hacked or anything, I just wanted to get your attention and make a point at the same time.  Friends and family, I have been meaning to do this for a while and just haven’t gotten around to it.  I have wanted to sit everyone down, so to speak, and have a little chat regarding safe behaviors on the Internet.   Some of you may need this more than others, to be frank.

And this is a long post, yes.  But if you are one of the people who ask me for computer advice, especially IT security advice, do me (and yourself) a favor and READ ALL OF THIS because the odds are good I will be sending you here to read this the next time you have a problem.

They’re using the wrong model

This popped up yesterday in my daily email from Fab.com. I thought it was actually a pretty ingenious invention and that if we had some disposable income we’d get one or two for our animals. There’s only one thing that bugs me about it. OK, two.

Apocalypse whenever

OK, 2012 is finally here.  I don’t really care about how many times people may have seen that over-the-top movie with John Cusack.  I seriously doubt that the world is going to end this year, or that is it is specifically going to end on or soon after December 21st of this year.

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.  For that they have our thanks.  And we thank them especially for not throwing any poo in the process.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,300 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

And seriously, Kevin Smith and his dachshund should thank us for all the free (but still more or less accidental) publicity they got from us last year.
