I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised to see that Kevin Smith is apparently a dachshund fan. He owns a short-haired mini named Shecky. I am a fan of his work, and I have owned dachshunds forever, and yet I never knew he had a dachshund.

Lucy, who started off as my sister Liz’s dog and eventually became my dog, was also a female mini who had this thing about trying to lick the inside of your mouth. I have no idea why. Is it a submissive thing? A momma dog thing? Who knows. Anyway, I thought that was cool.

I’ve read that dachshunds (and other breeds) lick your mouth as a sign you outrank them in the pack, so it is kind of a submissive thing. They’re just saying “you’re the boss”.
Yep, that’s absolutely true. Our Thumbelina used to do that with large male dogs (think 150lb+ mastiffs, etc.) when she was young and was SO excited to see them at the dog park. She also did it to me a lot when I first brought her home. She doesn’t do it as much now partially because pack order is firmly established and partially because she knows who’s really the boss. The cat.
