It looks like this year is going to be a HUGE year for history geeks like me.
It will be the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. There will be a lot of festivities here in Boston commemorating that event, especially because of the U.S.S. Constitution.
It will be the 150th anniversary of a great many Civil War events, including: the Battle of Mill Springs; the capture of Fort Henry and Fort Donelson; the Battle of Hampton Roads (U.S.S. Monitor vs. C.S.S. Virginia); the Battle of Shiloh; the Peninsula Campaign; the Second Battle of Bull Run; the Battle of Antietam; the Battle of Perryville; the Battle of Fredericksburg; and last but definitely not least, the Battle of Stones River (Stones River National Battlefield is where I used to be a volunteer for the NPS). I did not include links for everything because, frankly, I do not want to be here all day, and besides, some of these events have not been finalized yet. But boy, are there going to be a lot of them.
It will be the 100th anniversary of the opening of Fenway Park here in Boston.
So yeah, it is going to be a bit busy and I am going to have to decide what events I actually might be able to attend. But I think this should be the year that I really get my feet wet in regards to getting back into Civil War history.

Let’s hear it for positive puddles :-).
Yes, positive puddles are good. I need to do some splashing.
Speaking of puddles, how many days left now until your epic trip?
