This was sent to me by the always fabulous Amanda. It was tweeted by the one and only Nichelle Nichols and was taken in the Oval Office on 2/29/12. Yes, I’m going to make you click through to see it, it’s that good.
The original photo was posted here.
For those of you not in the know, Nichelle Nichols was pioneering in her role as Uhura. Not only was Uhura one of the first black roles to be a peer with white men, she was also involved in the first scripted interracial kiss, with Kirk, of course.
For your edification: “In the 1968 episode “Plato’s Stepchildren“, Uhura and Captain Kirk kiss. The episode is popularly cited as the first example of a scripted inter-racial kiss on United States television. Originally, the scene was meant to be filmed with and without the kiss, so that the network could later decide whether to air the kiss. However, Shatner and Nichols deliberately flubbed every take of the shot without the kiss so that they could not be used.”
I’ll sign off with, what else? Live Long and Prosper. (You can’t see it but I’m making the proper hand gesture at the computer. No, not that one. Sheesh.)

Also? That's a gorgeous picture.
Isn’t she amazing? I don’t know how old she is, but she looks great. I would love to meet her at a geekfest one day.
