I have not talked about my jobs in a while, and I wanted to let people know how they were going.
They are going quite well.
Yes, the pay is not as much as I made working in the defense industry, but I can honestly say that I am much, much happier. For the first time in many years I don’t mind going to work, even look forward to it, and I don’t mind picking up extra shifts when I can. This is what happens when I get to do something I really love. After doing volunteer work for museums and historic sites for so long for free, actually getting paid to do what I love, even if it is not that much yet, is pretty fantastic. It makes me wonder why I did not do this sooner.
Now, in a perfect world, I would be able to now focus on doing what I always wanted to do, and go on to graduate school and become a real historian/professor. I guess we will see. I just want us to be able to make ends meet, and to be happy. Right now in regards to my work, I am pretty happy, so it is just a matter of making ends meet, and we are both working hard to do just that. And I am optimistic that Kelly and I will finally be able to do what we love and still make a living without having to make ourselves miserable in the process. Truly, that is something to celebrate.
