Ah, summer…

Yes, summer is really here, and today the temperature here in Winthrop by the Sea has reached 93 degrees, with a heat index of 100.  So naturally, this is when our air conditioner decides to partially break down.  We have AC in the basement (where it is least needed) and partially on the first floor, but it basically isn’t working at all on the second floor and so the temperature in our bedroom hit 85 degrees in the shade.  We are temporarily sleeping in the basement on the sleeper sofa until the HVAC guys can come on Monday.

The only one of us who seems totally unaffected is Violet.  She doesn’t seem to mind the heat at all.  Scratch, on the other hand, has camped out in the basement with us and the dogs.

The garden is doing pretty well so far

In my last gardening post, I had promised to put up more pictures at some point to show how things were progressing with the garden.  And so here is the progress report.  Today was a gorgeous (but hot) summer day and I was out in the yard doing some work, so I thought I would take some pictures for another blog post.

Heading into that time of year

when temperatures have me in a near-constant sweat.

Clearly, when it comes to my ability to withstand temperatures, my French-Canadian side is dominant over the Portuguese side.  I do much better in cooler weather than I do in hot weather.  I start sweating when the temperatures go over 70, more or less.  And today it is going to reach the mid-80s.  Sigh.

Considering that this year is already well on its way to being the hottest year on record, I am not looking forward to whatever blistering temperatures we may get this summer.  Not at all.  At least it won’t be constant, like it used to be when I lived in Alabama.  That’s one big advantage of New England.

Some thoughts on Hell

In case it wasn’t clear from the title of this post, I’m going to use the word Hell a lot.  Mom, you might want to turn back now.  “Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate.*

I left work today to go to my monthly massage appointment.  I can tell you right now that the massage was absolutely not what inspired this post.  The massage was divine and I feel SO much better.

It was the walk from the Chiropractic Office back to Kendall Sq to catch the shuttle that got me thinking.  What the Hell is up?

Looking forward to fall already

Wow, it’s already August 1st.

We have been fortunate this year.  There have been few days over 90 degrees and none of those brutal heat waves of 100 degree temperatures like we had last year.

Still, I can’t wait for fall.
