So my first day back doing living history was good

Of course, I was asked just how hot the outfit was many times, just as I had often been asked when I was doing programs at places like Stones River National Battlefield and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park when I did programs in the summertime there.

The short answer is yes, it is quite warm.  It’s wool.

Love and Marriage

A couple of our friends are getting married soon and so we’re back in the throes of wedding planning.  Or, rather, I am as I’m assisting with stuff and things for one of the weddings.  It’s nice to be working on it for someone else this time around, my experience is helpful, I can back off when necessary, and it isn’t my parents who are getting upset.  🙂

That’s why these two articles on Boston.com caught my eye.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday

I get cranky when Father’s Day tramples my birthday.  This seems like a completely apropos way to announce that my birthday is, once again, being annihilated.  From Boston.com

A bit more about that whole swearing thing

It looks like our reaction to all that silliness in Middleborough is not unusual.  Even people there are apparently going out of their way now to break the law their town passed regarding profanity.  To me, this is one of those things that illustrate how people go after a symptom and not the cause.  The problem is that young people don’t have a whole lot to do in the town.  That seems pretty obvious.  So how is controlling profanity going to solve the problem?  Believe me, kids will find a way around that, even if the law somehow manages to not get overturned.  It wasn’t that long ago that a principal in Danvers, MA tried to outlaw the kids at his school talking like Beaker, the character from The Muppet Show.

A new tourist attraction

This article was published on Boston.com today.  It hit several other news outlets as well and was forwarded to us by a couple of friends.  As you can imagine, the general feeling was, “Don’t ever let Geoff go there now that this is law.”

We make the news for the most interesting reasons

Local people will probably see this on the news.  Before you read on, Geoff was there but was not involved.  He’s fine, he was just interviewed for the article.

I thought it was pretty funny myself

A lot of Patriots fans have been talking about the new video on Funny or Die by Pats quarterback Tom Brady.  Basically, it is all about accents, and of course he doesn’t have one, much less a Boston one.  He seems to be a good sport about the whole thing, and I always applaud anyone who doesn’t mind doing some self-parody.  Anyway, for all you non-Boston people who haven’t seen it yet, here it is.

I guess we’re continuing with the theme

I was reading an article on Boston.com about a rather inspired prank pulled by the graduating class at a local high school when this link at the bottom of the article caught my eye.  It was one of those, “if you’re reading this article then you’ll like this one too!” type of things.
