Season Six: GoT heads into uncharted territory, Part Two

OK, so now that I talked about what happened in the North last Sunday on Game of Thrones, I thought I would take the time to talk about the bit that really threw me off.  I suspect that my friend Patrick already knew what I was going to talk about next.

Dorne.

Season Six: GoT heads into uncharted territory, Part One

Well, the much anticipated Season Six premier was last night, and now that I have had some time to process everything, I thought I could write about it a bit.

I have read all five books in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series (multiple times) and enjoy them very much.  While there have been differences between the TV show and the books, I also appreciate the interpretation that has been done by the TV show. After all, they are totally different mediums, and considering the size of the books, 10 hours per season is actually NOT a lot of time.  So yeah, some streamlining has to take place.  I accept that.

Still, I have to admit I have been a little nervous now that the show is passing the books, at least in terms of some of the story lines, just as I am admittedly a little nervous about where George R.R. Martin will be taking some of the characters in the books.  And so while I have theories about what might happen next on the show, it’s rare that my ideas about future events on Game of Thrones have been proved to be so utterly, completely wrong.

Some GoT/ASOIAF theories on the other Targaryens

So an obvious question being asked by fans of GoT/ASOIAF is this: since the sigil of the Targaryens is a dragon with three heads, and since Daenarys Targaryen has three dragons, who are those other two heads?  In other words, who will be riding the other two dragons?  She’s the last known Targaryen, after all, especially after the deaths of her brother Viserys and her great, great uncle, Maester Aemon.

Truthfully, most people already have a pretty good idea whose those two people will be.  I feel something like 90 to 95% certain that I know who they are.  So let’s talk about how, at least in terms of the TV show, we will discover that these two individuals are in fact the other two Targaryens.

Indianapolis brewery owner is made of awesome

I can’t say I have ever been to Indianapolis.  But I ever go, I am going to give the Black Acre Brewing Company some of my business, at least stop in for lunch or something.  Why?   Because the owner, Jordan Gleason, threw a sexist meathead out of his place and then posted a Facebook rant about how appalled he is by the way women in the service industry are treated and by sexism in general.  And his post is going a bit viral as a result.

Happy John Daker Day

This post might be a little stream of consciousness.  It’s Holy Week, I’m tired, and last night I was exposed to one of the best/worst internet videos of all time.

GoT, ASOIAF, and the two paths to the end

Well, one of the things that happens when you don’t do a lot of blog posting is that you fall WAY behind on your GoT/ASOIAF commentaries.  My bad.  Our friend and fellow GRRM fan Patrick is way ahead of me on all things Season Six, and frankly he has helped motivate me a bit (thanks man!).

So, now that life seems to be getting a bit more under control, it’s time for me to start catching up on all that.  After all, Season Six starts six weeks from this Sunday.  And there is all sorts of stuff to talk about.

Follow-up on our Lightbringer theory

Now that Season Five is over, time for some more speculation about Season Six.

I am quite excited about some of the hints that have been dropped about the way Season Six will go, based on the casting calls.  And our earlier speculation about the identity of Lightbringer may well be tested.

Catching up with Game of Thrones, Part Two

Since I spent my last post talking about Stannis, I thought with this one I would talk a bit about what else is going on in the North, especially with the Night’s Watch, the Starks, and the rest of the North in general.

Catching up with Game of Thrones, Part One

Well.  Where to begin?

I guess you could say the last few episodes of Game of Thrones have been eventful, to put it mildly.  And since I have started my new job (not to mention my part-time academy class), I have not done a lot of writing here on our blog. So it’s time to do some catching up.

Still plenty of villains left in Westeros

I am a big fan of The Young Turks, and I really like the What the Flick? reviews of Game of Thrones.  I have been watching their reviews of the Season Five episodes, and one conversation intrigued me.  Cenk Ugyur made a comment that he missed some of the bad guys that died in Season Four, especially Joffrey (whom he particularly loathed) and Tywin Lannister.  That led to an interesting debate over who was more evil, and they even asked in the comments, “Who is more evil: Tywin Lannister or Littlefinger?”

That got me thinking about my own views of who the most evil people are in Westeros now that Joffrey, Lord Tywin, and the Mountain are dead.  And there are definitely some good candidates.
