The wondrous music of Game of Thrones
Back on March 6th, Kelly and I attended a very special sort of concert at the Garden. As anyone who knows us reasonably well already knows, we are really big fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the TV show based on it, Game of Thrones. Thanks to one of her coworkers, we got two tickets to the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience. It was by far the most enjoyable concert experience I have ever had. It was some three hours long, and I never got tired or bored. It was simply amazing.
Our nor’easter made the national news, and so did Kelly’s video of it
Over the last couple of days, we had our first nor’easter since we moved to Winthrop. The storm caused wind speeds here near the coast to pick up quite a bit, and as result there was a pretty heavy surf along the beaches here too.

It’s my last show of 2016!
And thank goodness for it.
I like doing shows, don’t get me wrong, but I’m just glad that 2016 is almost over. We can count it in days now, people. So let’s celebrate with my last market of the year. Somerville Local First is presenting their Holiday Marketplace on Sunday December 11th from 10am-4pm.
Friday November 11th, 2016 7:00pm @BU CFA – A FREE Concert Featuring Me!
It’s that time of year again. The When Patients Heal You concert is back. Only this year we’ve moved out of the lecture hall at the BU Medical Center and we’re back at my alma mater, Boston University. In fact, we’ll be performing in the concert hall where I did my undergraduate recital lo these many years ago.
It will be much like years past, all the performers will be neurology patients of Boston Medical Center and many of them will be epileptics like me. We’ll all get to perform two pieces and probably bring the house down at the end with big sing a long with Denise at the keyboard.
There’s usually a reception afterward with tasty food and a chance to mingle with the performers and the medical staff who not only provide us with excellent care, they sometimes even perform with us. Please join us on Friday night for a great concert and a lot of fun. This is a free event. Tell your friends.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Reupholster
Even semi-regular visitors around here know that Geoff and I like old stuff. And by old stuff I mean antiques. We have a lot of them around the house. (To be fair we have a reasonable amount of old rocks too, but most of them are set into jewelry.) Some of the antiques we own come to us in rough shape. Some of it we’re good at restoring ourselves, but sometimes we need to involve a professional. Note that you’ll never see an antique piece of furniture painted “shabby chic” or with chalkboard paint in our home. NEVER.
But, you will see furniture with good bones get reupholstered. Reupholstery is part of restoration, sometimes the fabric on a piece isn’t original or is but is too badly damaged to salvage. That’s where a really good upholsterer comes in.

May the Fourth be With You and other things unrelated to Game of Thrones
We’ve been writing a lot about A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones lately, and that’s fabulous. You have been a super audience and excellent with the comments, reading, and sharing. But as today is May the Fourth and there are other cool things going on I’m going to pop in to add a post that, while awesome and geeky, has nothing to do with Game of Thrones. Not even a little.

Indianapolis brewery owner is made of awesome
I can’t say I have ever been to Indianapolis. But I ever go, I am going to give the Black Acre Brewing Company some of my business, at least stop in for lunch or something. Why? Because the owner, Jordan Gleason, threw a sexist meathead out of his place and then posted a Facebook rant about how appalled he is by the way women in the service industry are treated and by sexism in general. And his post is going a bit viral as a result.
