All are welcome here

One of the pleasures of working for a church that is also a historic site is that I get to talk with a lot of very interesting people from all over the world.  Although we do get some rude people, for the most part it is a really positive experience, and today was no different.

Today, I got to have an extended conversation with a total stranger about faith, and about the commonalities of our two faiths, Christianity and Islam.

Illumination in the oddest places

Generally speaking, I am not a fan of popular culture, but on occasion I am pleasantly surprised by it.  And on even more rare occasions, it shocks me.  Not in a bad way, but in the way that you are shocked when you experience a true windfall.

That is how I feel about A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of ThronesThe books AND the TV show that they inspired.

***42 emails and counting***‏

That was the title of the email I sent to Petflow.com yesterday morning at 7:45am when I realized that my inbox was inundated and it wasn’t showing signs of stopping.

Before I go on I should probably warn you, this is not one of my rants.  This is a story about customer service.  Good customer service.

Ding, Dong! DOMA is DEAD!

I am currently at work and Teri and I are doing the happy dance.  The Supremes have struck down DOMA.  I haven’t read the decision yet, but the fact that it is now DOA is awesome.  Will June 26th be remembered as the day that all Americans received equal treatment under Federal law no matter who they marry?  We’ll see.

I’m letting the live blogging from here scroll through in the background while that venomous little hatemonger Scalia reads the dissent.  There is something nice in knowing that history will judge him and that he’ll end up on the wrong side.  Of everything.

More later,

Singing Stones Jewelry this weekend!

I’m participating in two jewelry shows this weekend, please come and see me!

Saturday I’ll be a part of Somerville Open Studios at location #15.  This is as a part of the Somerville Local Artists Market at The Burren in Davis Square.  I’ll have my jewelry for sale and would love to see you there.

I'll be there on Saturday May 4th.
I’ll be there on Saturday May 4th.

On Sunday I’ll be vending as a part of Harvard Square Mayfair.  I’ll be on Church Street under a red tent near the bead store and Border Cafe.  Please come and check out my cool new setup.  There will be great food, vendors, music, and entertainment for the whole family.

Hopefully, things will settle down a bit now

Needless to say, I am thrilled that they found the two suspects and that one of them (apparently the younger brother) has been taken alive, which will hopefully give the investigators the chance to get all the details they need.  I sure hope so.  It will be nice to have a nice, calm week to settle down to a regular routine again.  Admittedly, after this past week, I almost wouldn’t be surprised to have Godzilla march down Commonwealth Avenue.  If that happens, I guarantee that I will not be one of the people who waits to get stepped on.

So yeah, tomorrow I am going to try to do some housecleaning, put up our new HDTV antenna, and do some good Portuguese home cooking.  Maybe I can get a decent night’s sleep tonight too.

Sleep tight, Boston.  Sweet dreams.

Some things to make you happy as January comes to a close

And as you all know, as January ends we enter the doldrums of winter.  We’re experiencing a freak break in the cold with temps in the 50’s today.  But it will get freezing again.  I’m still holding out hope for snow, but until then, let these stories make you smile.  And, yes, I know January ends tomorrow.  Nyah.

2012 in review

It’s that time again.  WordPress has helpfully provided us with all kinds of cool stats on our blog.  There are also nifty graphics and fun details about where all of you kindly readers came from, what you liked to read about, and what you searched for.

I can tell you from experience that we get a lot of people coming here looking for words like “disturbing” “sexist women”  and “women comparison”.  I find that a little disturbing, but if you stay for a read I suppose it’s not a bad thing?

Enjoy the WordPress report and have a safe and healthy celebration tonight.  I’ll be here at home working on Etsy, enjoying an honest-to-God day off, and relaxing with the kids.

Happy New Year!

~Kelly
