There’s been a lot of victory going around in the last few days, not the least of which was a few minutes ago when Geoff and I finally conquered the Massachusetts version of the ACA website. In the spirit of the season, it’s time to share some good news.

We love Lewis Black
A few years ago I drove with my dad to pick up my brother-in-law’s car that was parked at an Air Force base a few hours away. On the way down I popped in a few of my Lewis Black concert CDs, and I don’t know if I have ever seen my dad laugh so hard for so long as he did on that trip. Instant Lewis Black fan.
Well, Lewis continues to be awesome, and we love him for it. Recently, his Daily Show segment Back in Black featured his take on the homophobic comments of the CEO of Barilla, the big pasta maker. Watch it, but probably not at work.

Welcome, October
Ok, so it’s October 1st. The Federal Government has effectively shut down. Open enrollment for the ACA has started, but the website isn’t working. In fact, until about 11:00am this morning, the MA iteration of the website didn’t even reflect that open enrollment for people looking for ACA healthcare effective 1/1/14 had begun.
More things you should be reading right now
Geoff and I have been dealing with a pile of bureaucratic red tape so high that 1) we’re tired and 2) I know now how to spell bureaucratic without looking it up or using spell check. So, in lieu of real content I present you with More things you should be reading right now. All links are, as always, SFW.

Finally
It’s about time.
After the last 24 hours, this is just awesome news.

A lesson in contrasts
I think it is safe to say that the march of human rights has made steady though inconsistent progress over the last 100+ years. In the last 48 hours some interesting stories have popped up that have reminded me not only of how far we’ve come but also of how far we have to go.
DOMA is dead memes
We did this back in April with the Boston Strong memes and as we’ve blogged about this here and here, it’s time to do it again.
We give you, Ding, Dong! DOMA is Dead! memes.

The world is slowly coming around
and I thank God for it. It’s been a long time coming, but as a truly great man once said, “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
And an oldie but a goodie from SNL.
Enjoy!

Ding, Dong! DOMA is DEAD!
I am currently at work and Teri and I are doing the happy dance. The Supremes have struck down DOMA. I haven’t read the decision yet, but the fact that it is now DOA is awesome. Will June 26th be remembered as the day that all Americans received equal treatment under Federal law no matter who they marry? We’ll see.
I’m letting the live blogging from here scroll through in the background while that venomous little hatemonger Scalia reads the dissent. There is something nice in knowing that history will judge him and that he’ll end up on the wrong side. Of everything.
More later,
~Kelly
A picture is worth a 1,000 words
Or 10,000 lakes.
Apparently Michelle Bachmann said she’d leave the state if this passed. I can’t wait to see the moving trucks arrive. I wonder where she’ll go?
