Does the Night King have Greensight? A theory

I rewatched S7E6, “Beyond the Wall”, again and noticed a few things I had not noticed the first time.

For one thing, it almost seems like the Night King knows when Bran is watching him through Greensight.  Is it just me?  When Bran had warged into the ravens to fly over the Army of the Dead, the Night King looked up and the ravens scattered immediately, as if the connection to Bran had been suddenly interrupted or broken.  And since Bran immediately goes out of his warg/Greensight trance also, I am assuming that it is broken.

The Night King was created by the Children of the Forest.  Did they pass on Greensight to him when they created him?

The Trumpization of Civil War history

As a general rule, I am not a fan of the term “history buff”.  Whenever I see someone referred to as a “history buff”, I tend to become a little irritated.  In my mind, history buffs collect the Civil War Chess Set and Stonewall Jackson beer steins.  Historians do research and then usually present their findings in one way or another.  Just because you read history doesn’t mean you are a historian, just as the fact you can speak English does not mean you could be an English teacher, you know?

So when I read about Paul LePage, Governor of Maine (and living example of how the combination of poor anger management and eating too much poutine is really bad for you), making the (to me) astounding claim that 7,600 men from Maine fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, I nearly coughed Coke Zero through my nose.   Continue reading “The Trumpization of Civil War history”

Thank God for Game of Thrones

As the news just gets harder and harder to watch, a little escapism once a week can be a wonderful thing.

Sadly, there are only two episodes left in this season, including tonight’s episode.  So GoT’s ability to blot out the awfulness of reality is going to be temporary.  You might even say limited to a brief… eclipse. [rim shot]

We’re having a Season 7 Premiere party! (And other Season 7 things.)

So after many years of wanting to throw a GoT theme party, we are finally going to have one – complete with costumes.  The occasion is, of course, the premiere of Season 7 on the 16th of this month.  I am going to be preparing a dinner of some sort based on A Feast of Ice and Fire and maybe a few other recipes from the Inn at the Crossroads site.  Hopefully this will be the first of many.

So anyway… I have had Game of Thrones on the brain lately and have been thinking about what we might expect in Season 7 (and maybe Season 8).

My two cents on the GoT Season 7 trailer

So the trailer came out for Season Seven of Game of Thrones, and of course it has already broken records for viewership.

First I checked out my friend Pat’s blog to see what he thought of the trailer and get his input.  If you want the opinion of another person who has read all of the books and is a fairly obsessed ASOIAF/GoT fan (like myself, and in a good way) then go check him out.

Some predictions for Season 7 of Game of Thrones

As I have often done before a new season of Game of Thrones, I thought I would make a few predictions as to what we might see when Season 7 begins this July.

We have already heard a few things, and can guess a few more based on the bits and pieces that we have been shown in the teaser trailers, some clues that have slipped out, and on the logical progression of the story.

The wondrous music of Game of Thrones

Back on March 6th, Kelly and I attended a very special sort of concert at the Garden.  As anyone who knows us reasonably well already knows, we are really big fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the TV show based on it, Game of Thrones.  Thanks to one of her coworkers, we got two tickets to the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience.  It was by far the most enjoyable concert experience I have ever had.  It was some three hours long, and I never got tired or bored.  It was simply amazing.

Happy #PresidentsDay

Today is the day that we traditionally celebrate the men who have held the office of the President of the United States.  Over the years that celebration has gone from actually thinking about the Founding Fathers to indulging in a long weekend, sales on automobiles, and deep discounts at your local mall or favorite online store.
