I think it is safe to say that the march of human rights has made steady though inconsistent progress over the last 100+ years. In the last 48 hours some interesting stories have popped up that have reminded me not only of how far we’ve come but also of how far we have to go.

The customer is not always right
One of the greatest disservices ever done to workers in this country was the introduction of the phrase, “The customer is always right.” The credit for that tidbit of wisdom goes to Stanley Marcus of retailer Neiman Marcus. Thanks, Stanley.
The customer is NOT always right. Anyone who has ever worked in retail, food service, or front line customer service of any kind can tell you that. In our society comprised of increasingly entitled, unintelligent, lazy, self-centered, and generally ignorant people, giving them something so blatantly easy, so totally pandering to grab onto as “The customer is always right” has done nothing but harm.
That has never been more obvious than in the last few days when the vine video in this article, if you can call a 6 second loop a video, went viral.
Faith in humanity being restored
Slowly.
I have to admit that the Texas Anti-Woman Law and the Zimmerman verdict coming within hours of one another made me really unhappy with humanity for a while. Then there was the announcement that The View was hiring Jenny McCarthy to fill its patented Obnoxious Vapid Contentious Blond Host seat.
That about did me in. How does somebody like her get paid $$$ to sit on TV and spew that dangerous crap when Geoff and I are working constantly, are far smarter and funnier, and we’re barely making ends meet?
Summer Jewelry Shows!
I have some shows coming up. This weekend and next I’ll be vending at ASSEMBLED and SLAM respectively. It should, hopefully, be a nice weekend so come on out this weekend and see me out by the Mystic River. Next weekend I’ll be in Davis square while Artbeat is going on so there will be lots to see.

I have new stuff and a bunch of new vintage things on offer. Hope to see you there!

Can someone please explain this to me?
Yeah, so I didn’t rant the other day, but this is where I get my rant on. From an article by the AP, courtesy of Boston.com.
***42 emails and counting***
That was the title of the email I sent to Petflow.com yesterday morning at 7:45am when I realized that my inbox was inundated and it wasn’t showing signs of stopping.
Before I go on I should probably warn you, this is not one of my rants. This is a story about customer service. Good customer service.
Time to clear off the phone
There are too many random photos on my phone. So I’m inflicting them on you, internets.
Yes, this is the kind of random stuff I take photos of with my phone. You’re welcome.

Ding, Dong! DOMA is DEAD!
I am currently at work and Teri and I are doing the happy dance. The Supremes have struck down DOMA. I haven’t read the decision yet, but the fact that it is now DOA is awesome. Will June 26th be remembered as the day that all Americans received equal treatment under Federal law no matter who they marry? We’ll see.
I’m letting the live blogging from here scroll through in the background while that venomous little hatemonger Scalia reads the dissent. There is something nice in knowing that history will judge him and that he’ll end up on the wrong side. Of everything.
More later,
~Kelly
It ends today… hopefully
The phone calls, the emails, the voice mails, the robo-calls, the text messages. The door knocking, inevitably when I’m in the bathroom or sleeping. The door hangers or giant post it notes left when I’m not home or literature illegally stuffed through the mail slot. At 8:00pm tonight, for good or ill, it is done.
Election day is over.
