Taxes, thank you notes, and interviews

And maybe a small rant…

Despite the fact that I slept in today, I’ve gotten a remarkable amount of work done.  I got the two thank you notes from yesterday’s interview written and sent out with Geoff to be dropped in the mail.  I had picked up some more stamps on my way home after yesterday’s interview precisely so I wouldn’t have to hunt down a random forever stamp left over from the wedding or mix together a conglomeration of postcard stamps to do the trick.

I got an email about another interview from an interested local college.  We have a telephone interview tomorrow and, if all goes well, an in person interview sometime soon after that.

From famine to feast in one week

After not having a lot of luck in the job search for most of December and January, suddenly both of us have a whole bunch of interviews.  Both of us have already had phone interviews this week, and I have a face-to-face interview Friday.  Kelly is having an interview right now (if it hasn’t ended yet).  So we are hopeful that something good will come out of this, preferably with at least one of us getting a full-time job with benefits.   We are optimistic.

And as a bonus, a friend of ours has also possibly found a dream job and is in the process of applying.  So maybe things are finally turning around?  I hope I am not jinxing us.

The job hunt continues

While I see that the unemployment figures for the state of Massachusetts are slowly going down, I am still looking for work.  I am fortunate enough to have had a couple of interviews this month, but so far nothing looks certain.  Of course Kelly is still looking for full-time work also, and is still grabbing as many shifts as she can at her part-time job.  I feel like I need to do something different, but I am not sure what.   Should I try to get more IT certifications?  Should I try something else?  I almost feel like my answer should be “all of the above” so I don’t limit myself.

Slowly returning to normal, except for that whole Geoff as Santa thing

Kelly and I went to church today and followed a fairly regular schedule for the first time in a good while.  She had been working a lot of shifts this past week that kept her out late (last night until after 1 AM), and I have been trying to get caught up on all of the housework that got neglected in the weeks before the wedding.

The definition of frustrating…

… is when you see a job you applied AND interviewed for posted again less than a year after you were rejected for it.  This has happened multiple times to me in my career and it never fails to aggravate me.  I want to reach out and email the hiring manager and tell them, “If you’d hired me I’d still be there!”

But I never do.  Because I have manners.

My cell phone

Some combo of my actual cell phone and AT&T are up to tricks and I DO NOT like them at all.  If you need to get in touch with me please do one of the following.

1) Call me at home.  Really. We have a land line.  It works and at this point it is better and more reliable than the cell phone even though it is Verizon powered.

2) Call my Google Voice number.  There are like 12 ways I can get those messages and I can send and receive text messages from that number.  If you need it, that number is 617-396-7664.

3) Send me an email.  I am online almost all day as I am looking for work and wedding planning.  At this point as there is a lag of DAYS between when cell voicemails are left and when I get them and seconds between when emails are sent and when I get them, email is the way to go.

4) Comment here.  I’m on here a LOT.  And I get an email whenever there is a comment left here.  So if you need to get in touch with me and all else fails, or if you just want to leave me a witty comment, say something here.  Ftr, I like witty commentary.

Thanks.

P.S. Geoff is STILL in the interview.  Fingers crossed!

A good phone call, for once

I just got called for an interview tomorrow!  The best part, aside from the fact that it is a job I’d be really good at?  It’s 3 blocks from home.  That’s right, 3 blocks away.  Best.  Commute.  Ever.

It is a temporary assignment, but that’s ok.  It’s temporary full time.  I’ll take that.  Fingers crossed that it all goes well tomorrow.
