A further note on Scratch

I thought I would add something related to the post that my wife put up about our youngest.   You see, Scratch was named after a character in PvP, one of my favorite comics.  I found it particularly hilarious when Scratch began imitating his namesake by becoming fascinated with Christmas trees.  And like Kelly also mentioned, Scratch started knocking ornaments off the tree like his namesake too.  Fortunately, he has not yet managed to turn into Kringus.  But he does love to get up in the tree.

My dog Rerun is also named after a character in a comic.

They’re using the wrong model

This popped up yesterday in my daily email from Fab.com. I thought it was actually a pretty ingenious invention and that if we had some disposable income we’d get one or two for our animals. There’s only one thing that bugs me about it. OK, two.

Slowly returning to normal, except for that whole Geoff as Santa thing

Kelly and I went to church today and followed a fairly regular schedule for the first time in a good while.  She had been working a lot of shifts this past week that kept her out late (last night until after 1 AM), and I have been trying to get caught up on all of the housework that got neglected in the weeks before the wedding.

Better living through chemistry

As my tolerance for Scratch’s shenanigans and general level of aggression was rapidly nearing an end, we took him to the vet last week.  Once we explained to her what was going on and my theory that, perhaps, he was actually a cryptorchid, he had a physical exam that included a check to see if he was, in fact, producing testosterone.  This physical exam is not unlike making him turn his head and cough, but in male cats it is a bit more invasive.

Geoff’s cat is a pervert

And other fun family secrets…

One of the joys of combining households is seeing how the animals react to each other.  We combined households back in December of 2008 when Geoff got a job up here in Boston and was finally able to move here.  Geoff had been adopted by Scratch shortly before that and we were able to get Scratch neutered right before the trip up here.

Since we haven’t talked about the animals in a while…

Smoky is doing much better.  It’s strange to see how much weight he has lost since he got really sick.  He seems so much happier now.  You can actually see some of his little bald patches filling in now, and his chicken legs are growing fur back on them too.  Right now he is lying at my feet as I use the Furminator on him – purring, twitching his tail slightly, and kneading with his front paws –  just as content as can be.

Smoky is doing well, an update

Smoky came home from the hospital on Monday.  He was SO ready to come home.  He was pressing his nose up against the bars on the carrier and purring and making it *very* clear that he was done at the hospital.  Surprisingly, he was a very good patient.  He’s a nice cat but he can be pretty high strung and he doesn’t handle change well so I wasn’t sure how he’d handle being there.  But, he was good.  Everyone was sad to see him go as he was, apparently, very affectionate.

Radioactive Cat gets to come home today!

I just got a call from Angell.  Smoky has fallen below the Federally mandated levels of radiation allowable after his I-131 treatment so we can go and get him.  Yay!  We have some errands to run and then we’re going to go and pick him up and bring him home.  He’s going to live in the guest room for the next 2 weeks.  That will drive the other animals BONKERS.  But that’s how it’s got to be.

I am so excited to have him back.  He should be a happier, healthier kitty.  Yay!
