Sometimes, a little distraction is just what’s needed

Lately, Kelly and I have been having a pretty rough time in general.  We have managed so far to keep our chins up, mainly due to our love for each other and our little furry kids.  But it has also been encouraging that we have gotten a lot of emotional (and sometimes material) support from friends and family, and lately that has also helped us to keep our heads above water financially.  So since I feel like I have not said thank you to all of those people nearly enough, I will say so again here.  Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.  I honestly don’t know what we would do without all of you.

Rest in Peace Sergeant Slaughter

We found out earlier this afternoon that our awesome upstairs neighbors lost their cat, Sarge, earlier this week.  He was young and it was totally unexpected and completely unpreventable.  He essentially had a stroke.  They were there for him in the end when the vet had to give him the shot to let him go and he didn’t linger, but it is terribly sad.

He was the only cat I’ve ever met who didn’t like me, but I’ll still miss the little bugger.  We generally can’t hear much from upstairs, but we could hear Sarge when he’d leap from the bed and race across the hardwood floor to the front door whenever one of them would come home.

Rest in Peace little guy.  We’ll see you at The Bridge, and I promise I’ll remember to bring treats.

Kelly’s shower is over and it went well

We had a long but productive weekend.  Of course Kelly and her mom were busy with all of the bridal shower stuff, but they also managed to get a lot of other things done, like reorganizing the guest room so we would have more storage space for wedding stuff.  I helped out where I could, and I also managed to complete a little kitchen project I had wanted to do that will give us a little more storage space.  All in all, it was a pretty good weekend.  I was only there for the early part when things were being set up, and then I left after I made sure they did not need me to run any more errands.  So I did not get any pictures or anything, obviously, but it is my understanding that a lot of pictures were taken by Liza and so hopefully at some point we will be able to see some of those.

I think this is turning into a competition

Based on my post from the other day, I think this might be turning into a competition.  Our friends Jason and Shelley are Yankee fans.  Yes, we love them anyway.  (They’re originally from CT, they can’t help it.)  Jason once legendarily got thrown out of a bar, leaving behind a bar tab, after cheering at the wrong time in a Sox vs. Yanks game.  The bartender told him to get out, even when Jason offered to pay his tab, because it would cost more to fix up the bar after the fight that was about to happen than it would if Jason just left.

Best wedding response so far

We’re receiving wedding reply cards back a little bit at a time.  This is great because the deadline isn’t until October 1.  The faster we get them back the easier all of the planning will be for the reception.  The cards have a note on them asking people to please inform us of food allergies or dietary restrictions on the back.

Anyway, I received one back today from a friend who is an incredibly talented musician, a devoted foodie and oenophile, and a generally funny guy.  His “food allergy” note said, “I am allergic to less than $20.00 wine. :)”

That just made my day.  My friends are the best.

Greetings from Huntspatch… er, I mean Huntsville

It’s hard to believe that my trip is already over and I am heading back to Boston tomorrow morning.  I have been pretty busy with everything going on with the family.  It was good to see everyone, and it was good to have the chance to see some of my friends that I had not seen in several years as well.  Wow, so much has changed in just three years.   Anyway, I managed to take some photos.

What I did yesterday

I made this.  I also custom created the header, did the HTML for the resume there, updated her Monster.com resume, and got her a Google Voice number.  For the love of God, someone hire her!  Or, you know, me.  Or Geoff.

Ahem.

I also ran a bunch of errands and was reminded, yet again, of the fact that there are tremendous numbers of clothes designed every year for plus sized women that are just HORRENDOUSLY ugly.  Note to clothes designers: just because we’re size 14+ does not automatically mean that we want huge prints, shapeless shirts or dresses, or clothing without structure.  I promise.  REALLY.  Check in with Marina Rinaldi if you’re confused.  Or Ralph Lauren.  Or Calvin Klein.
