Pity the poor cockroach

Geoff and I were watching an episode of Criminal Minds the other night and a super familiar thing happened.  It’s something that happens a lot on TV and it always makes me roll my eyes, but this time it irritated me enough to make me want to come here and get all science-ranty about it.

I should probably say before I get started that I genuinely like Criminal Minds and that I’ve been watching it off and on since Season 1.  This problem is not specific to any particular show but to all TV and Movies that need a Big Scary Bug and science be damned.

Btw, there are photos of bugs after the jump.  Lots of them.  You have been warned.

Shop Local- your holiday shopping calendar

As much as I try to pretend otherwise, it is November.  And while this does mean that there is a lot of really good music happening this month, it also means that it’s time for Holiday Craft Show Season to really get underway.  My schedule is packed with great shows.  If you need gifts for people who are interesting, quirky, hard to shop for, or just want something one of a kind, look no further.

Seriously, click on that link below.  It’s right down there.

2015 has been kicking my ass

Regular readers will recall that a little while back I said we’d be away for a while due to the death of a friend.  Truth be told, his loss was, at the time, the latest in a long string of Very Hard Things 2015 had handed us.

It seems, however, that June might bright A New Hope.  (Sorry)  But, before we get to the good stuff, let’s go over where we’ve been, shall we?

Somerville Local is for Lovers Valentine Market

After a small break in January, we’re back at it, this time in time for Valentine’s Day.  Geoff and I will be vending at the Somerville Local First Local is for Lovers Market at the Armory in Somerville on Sunday February 8th from 10:00am – 3:00pm.  (For those of you scurrying to check your calendars, this is the Sunday after the Superbowl.)

This will be our first market with SLF since Singing Stones Jewelry became a part of Cambridge Local First.  I, for one, am really excited.

We’re also going to be back showing with the ever fantastic Gravestone Girls, Erica from Esoterica and Smiley Baby Hats, Q’s Nuts, and the good folks at Next Step Living.  This is, as always, a full on family event with Knucklebones there to entertain and enlighten the kids while the adults shop, listen to great music, and check out the hard cider vendor Far From the Tree Craft Hard Cider.

We really hope to see you there!

Last Two Jewelry Shows of 2014 – Buy Local!

It’s that time of year again, crunch time for shopping for friends, family, roommates, and that annoying Office Yankee Swap.  Have no fear!  I have your solution.

December 6th, 2014

I have two shows coming up, my last two shows of the year.  The first is 11:00am – 5:00pm at First Church in Jamaica Plain.  This show has been going on forever and is beloved among JP residents.  Get there early, the good stuff goes fast!

Craft Fair ad 2014Also, the good people at First Church will be doing a canned food drive as well as a drive for gloves, hats, scarves and new men’s socks for patrons of the food pantry.  If you have any of those items, no other clothing items please, bring them with you to help brighten someone’s holiday.

I am really looking forward to my first show with the good folks at First Church in JP.  I hope to see you on Saturday.

December 13th, 2014

Then, on Saturday December 13th, I’ll be in a completely different venue and there will be free wine.  That’s right, I’ll be at the Brookline Liquor Mart and there will be wine tastings all day as well as a group of local craft vendors selling all sorts of items from 1:00pm – 5:00pm.

BLM2014The folks at Brookline Liquor Mart have added this Art Fair to their extensive list of December offerings.  Come by and check us out.  It’s sure to be a great time.  And, I’ll have wine charms for sale.

I hope to see you at one or both of these great events!

Roslindale Open Studios 11/1 & 11/2

I’m lucky to be participating in Roslindale Open Studios this year.  This is the 10th year of ROS and they’re a great group to work with.  If you want to start your Christmas shopping with some handmade items and also want the chance to look around Roslindale, take a bike tour, and sample some craft food and beverage, the first weekend in November is it!

I’ll be in the lower level of the Roslindale Congregational Church.  The excellent ROS website has my listing details here.  The weekend events listing is here and the directions are here.

There’s also ROS Home Studio Bingo.

You have to play to win and you have to be there to play.  Want to know more? Come to Roslindale on 11/1 & 11/2!

Celebrate the Season!

No, not that season.  The one we’re in right now.  Autumn.

Somerville is celebrating the final SomerStreets of the year on Sunday October 19th with the Monster Mashed UP Festival.  Major streets will be closed, ghosts and goblins will walk among us, and fun will be had by all.  Also, there will be pumpkins, face painting, a parade, costume contests (for pets and their people) and, you’ve probably guessed it by now, craft vendors.

I’ll be there in my tent with all sorts of things to tempt you.  Things that make great host gifts, things that make gifts for yourself, and yes, things that make great holiday gifts as well.

Details are here.  Please come!  It’s a rain or shine event.  We’re hardy New Englanders after all, and this is only Autumn.  Winter is, as they say, still coming.

See you there!

~Kelly

Brimfield 2014 – The Loot – Part 1

Geoff and I found a lot of great things at Brimfield this year.  Unlike past years we didn’t go looking with extremely specific things in mind.  This helps tremendously because you tend to happen across things that you can use or give as gifts and spend more time browsing and less time hunting.  I’ve managed to photograph most of the items.  We’re going to break them up into a few posts over the next week or so because listing them all at once would be insane.
