One of my favorite holiday movies is getting a sequel

There are a lot of holiday movies out there, and even more if you count pseudo-holiday movies that are set during the holidays but not necessarily about the holidays.  The first Die Hard movie is a good example of that.  It’s hardly a movie that Grandma will sit down to watch with the grandkids, but it is set during the holidays.  Frankly, there aren’t a whole lot of them I like, but I do have a few favorites.  And there are two that I watch every holiday season because I love them that much.  The first is Love, Actually, which is not just a great holiday movie, it’s a great movie, period.  Lots of big names in it and the movie is just so well done.  The second is a somewhat obscure comedy that has become a cult classic.  No, I don’t mean A Christmas Story.  I mean The Hebrew Hammer.

The evidence is in…

and clearly, the world is indeed going to end this month.  Because we now know that the rapture did in fact take place.

Behold… the evidence I found in Beacon Hill yesterday.

I always wanted to be a farmer, really

So, seriously.  Ask anyone who knows me, my grandparents’ farm in Somerset was one of my favorite places in my childhood.  I really loved that place.  And my love of history got me into heirloom gardening, which I had no idea existed until I learned about it in the early 1990s.  And that led to a renewed interest in all sorts of other things related to farming, including livestock, barns, smokehouses, orchards, root cellars, ponds, beehives, you name it.  I guess that sort of thing appeals to me on several levels.  Self-sufficiency? Check.  History stuff?  Check.  Being outdoors?  Check.  Working with my hands in a way that is also intellectually stimulating? Check and check.

So when someone I know manages to actually do a lot of the things that I only wish I could do, I try to pay attention.

Announcing Singing Stones Jewelry

Well folks, I finally did it.  I’ve finally taken my jewelry obsession business online.  SingingStonesJewelry.com had a soft launch in time for my first show, but I finally got the companion Etsy site online yesterday in time for today, “Cyber Monday”.

Winter kitteh bundles

As the weather grows cooler, Kelly and I can always tell the nights it is getting really cold because we will suddenly see more animals at bedtime.  Rerun and Thumbelina are always with us, but as the temperature outside drops we start seeing Scratch curl up with us at bedtime.  The last animal to join in is Bucky, and so when we see him it usually means the temperature is going below freezing.  But it also means we get to see lots of cuddling little kittehs and puppehs, like this shot of little Scratchling.

He tunnels into comforters like he is a dachshund or something.

Kitteh photos always make things better.

A post in which I say “masshole” a lot

Anyone who has ever spent any time in New England knows about the “Boston” accent.  If you’ve spent any time around people who were raised here or who spent the greater portions of their lives in proximity to certain parts of Massachusetts, you know about the Law of R Conservation.

Why backups are important…

and I am not just talking about backing up your data.  I am talking about having backup plans for emergencies.  And now that some time has passed I can talk about Hurricane Sandy and some of the terrible things that went wrong in New York and New Jersey.

Work and modern pop culture

There is a bit of a running joke about the subway vent in the King’s Chapel Burial Ground.  Tourists ask about it on a fairly frequent basis.  And one response that is sometimes given (but not by me) is that it is a zombie pit.  It certainly does look as if someone is trying to keep everyone out, because they are.  Or perhaps… keep something in.  Heh, heh, heh.
