I need a distraction

Some things are just too terrible to process quickly, and I am still processing the horrific events of Friday.  So in honor of escapism, and also just because, I bring you the beautiful architecture of King’s Chapel here in Boston, decorated for Christmas just this weekend.  I work there as the primary verger* so I am a little biased, but I do think it is one of the most beautiful old churches around.

Sometimes, it’s nice to be reminded that there is still some beauty to find in this world.  Please enjoy.

The evidence is in…

and clearly, the world is indeed going to end this month.  Because we now know that the rapture did in fact take place.

Behold… the evidence I found in Beacon Hill yesterday.

Winter kitteh bundles

As the weather grows cooler, Kelly and I can always tell the nights it is getting really cold because we will suddenly see more animals at bedtime.  Rerun and Thumbelina are always with us, but as the temperature outside drops we start seeing Scratch curl up with us at bedtime.  The last animal to join in is Bucky, and so when we see him it usually means the temperature is going below freezing.  But it also means we get to see lots of cuddling little kittehs and puppehs, like this shot of little Scratchling.

He tunnels into comforters like he is a dachshund or something.

Kitteh photos always make things better.

Work and modern pop culture

There is a bit of a running joke about the subway vent in the King’s Chapel Burial Ground.  Tourists ask about it on a fairly frequent basis.  And one response that is sometimes given (but not by me) is that it is a zombie pit.  It certainly does look as if someone is trying to keep everyone out, because they are.  Or perhaps… keep something in.  Heh, heh, heh.

I’m not sure I have words for this

“Obsessed with guns much?”

That was about all Geoff and I had to say when this arrived in my inbox today.  Courtesy of Etsy, naturally, I had to click through to the seller and see if this was for real.

It is.

Bruce Campbell the cat

This is Bruce.

Bruce Campbell the cat is made of win
This little guy is being fostered in FL but needs a home of his own, especially one where he has other kitties to romp with.

He’s in Florida and he needs a new home.  There are more details about him here.  There is one potential adopter located here in MA, but that would require a creative and rather long transport.

If you’re interested in adopting Bruce, the foster Mom, Colleen, can be reached through the link above.

Thanks!

Boy, winter sure came early

Mark Twain had a lot of wonderful witty things to say about New England weather, and the most relevant  (and true) for today would certainly be this one, from a speech he gave in 1876:

One of the brightest gems in the New England weather is the dazzling uncertainty of it.

Oh, boy, is he so right.  Although the cold and rain was predicted, as was the high winds, I don’t think anyone thought that we would have any appreciable snow here in Boston today, and yet we got enough to turn the roads into quite a slushy mess.

Happy Halloween

From our family to yours.

Our wedding photo
We’ve almost been married a year and I don’t think we look one bit the worse for wear, do you?

Happy Halloween.  Remember, tonight when the veils between this world and the next are thinnest, there are a few things you need to know to keep safe.

Always Aim for the Head and The Double Tap.
