Wedding shopping – not mine!

Last month our dear friends Teri and Patricio got engaged.  I’d actually cornered Patricio at my wedding and asked him when he and Teri were going to get engaged.  I think they’ve been together for approximately 6 centuries now and it was getting harder and harder for me not to refer to them as betrothed.

An update on the patient

Smoky actually wanted to eat this morning.  That’s a huge improvement.  For a cat who usually inhales his food, the fact that he didn’t want to eat last night was discouraging.  He showed up for his pill pockets but didn’t want to eat them either.  We had to drop them down his throat.  He’s a creature of habit all right.

The Perfect Storm

Yesterday was Smoky’s drop off day for his I-131 treatment.  Per the instructions for his admission, he’d been off of his methimazole for a week.  Over the last week we’d been monitoring him carefully.  He’d been more heat sensitive than usual, he’d been breathing a bit heavier than normal, and his skin was getting drier and itchier.  On Sunday night I had to clean his ears and treat the driest of his skin with petroleum jelly because it was just so itchy and flaky that he was scratching it until it bled.

What I did yesterday

I made this.  I also custom created the header, did the HTML for the resume there, updated her Monster.com resume, and got her a Google Voice number.  For the love of God, someone hire her!  Or, you know, me.  Or Geoff.

Ahem.

I also ran a bunch of errands and was reminded, yet again, of the fact that there are tremendous numbers of clothes designed every year for plus sized women that are just HORRENDOUSLY ugly.  Note to clothes designers: just because we’re size 14+ does not automatically mean that we want huge prints, shapeless shirts or dresses, or clothing without structure.  I promise.  REALLY.  Check in with Marina Rinaldi if you’re confused.  Or Ralph Lauren.  Or Calvin Klein.

Swede tried to split atoms – at home

Associated Press / August 4, 2011

STOCKHOLM – A Swedish man who was arrested after trying to split atoms in his kitchen said yesterday he was only doing it as a hobby.

Richard Handl said he had the radioactive elements radium, americium, and uranium in his apartment in southern Sweden when police showed up and arrested him on charges of unauthorized possession of nuclear material.

Handl, 31, said he had tried for months to set up a nuclear reactor at home and kept a blog about his experiments, describing how he created a small meltdown on his stove.

Only later did he realize it might not be legal and sent a question to Sweden’s Radiation Authority, which answered by sending the police.

The police raid took place in late July, but police have refused to comment. If convicted, Handl could face fines or up to two years in prison.

Pro tip– if you cause a meltdown ON YOUR STOVE, you’re doin’ it wrong.

Family Emergency/How to get in touch with us Part 1 Million

We’re in the middle of a family medical emergency at the moment.

We’re in the middle of a lot of phone calls back and forth.  In the middle of it all Geoff’s cell phone has decided that the speaker will no longer work.  So, it will accept text messages and send them and it will work with bluetooth devices.  We can use it to make calls from the car, which is bluetooth enabled, and he’s currently looking for his bluetooth headset.

If you need to get in touch with us, specifically him, PLEASE call the house or my phone.  Email is also good as we’re both hooked up to the internet 24/7 right now and will be for the foreseeable future.  Comments here will also be answered in all haste.

Thanks, everyone,

~Kelly
