Normally, cold does not affect me the way it affects many other people. It must be the French-Canadian side of me, because it sure isn’t the Portuguese side that loves cold. But tonight it is going to get really, really, really cold here in Greater Boston.

This is your card
Normally Geoff and I spend an inordinate amount of time each November and December writing, signing, stamping, and mailing Christmas cards. We usually send out about 100.
Not this year.
Cheap fun
The fact that Geoff and I are low on funds is no secret. Many of our friends have commented on the fact that they haven’t seen a lot of us in the last few months. The is partly due to the fact that we don’t have the money to go out and do things and partly due to the fact that we don’t have the time.
So, we take our fun where we can find it.
My kids get all the best drugs
And by kids, of course, I mean pets.

Winter kitteh bundles
As the weather grows cooler, Kelly and I can always tell the nights it is getting really cold because we will suddenly see more animals at bedtime. Rerun and Thumbelina are always with us, but as the temperature outside drops we start seeing Scratch curl up with us at bedtime. The last animal to join in is Bucky, and so when we see him it usually means the temperature is going below freezing. But it also means we get to see lots of cuddling little kittehs and puppehs, like this shot of little Scratchling.

Kitteh photos always make things better.

Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act
We’ve all seen the photos that float around on the internet. They show soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq with their German Shepherds curled up together after a long day of work. The MP off duty with helmet for a pillow, her dog sitting dutifully by her side.
What you may not know is that the military currently classifies these animals as “equipment” and that when their working careers are over there is no guarantee that they’ll end up adopted or go home with their handlers.
My life, explained in photos
Lately things have been a little crazy around here. I have been running at full tilt to get a lot of work done for a lot of different places, getting less sleep than I should, while generally getting very frustrated with the world. And recovering from pneumonia. As there have been a plethora of oddly appropriate animal macros floating around on the web (most from ICHC), I’m going to use them to help explain my story.
With apologies to some of you for whom this is true
I am not a Morning Person. I never have been and I never will be. I have sometimes managed to pretend to be one for some of the jobs that I’ve held, but it’s never lasted very long. The reality is, I hate Morning People.

A little whimsy for your day
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I need a little whimsy today. So I found some on the internet. I hope you like the following as much as I did.
There, fixed that for you
Dogs and politics always make strange interesting bedfellows. One has only to check out Dogs Against Romney and read about the Seamus saga to know that, or to witness the swift death of Michael Vick’s career to know that being cruel to a dog is a great way to kill your public persona in the minds of the American public.
