Cambridge Open Studios is this weekend! Don’t miss it!

If you haven’t gotten a Mother’s Day gift yet (and what are you waiting for, I mean really) or a graduation/birthday/yay winter is over gift then this weekend is the perfect time.  Cambridge Open Studios is happening all over Cambridge from 12-6 tomorrow and Sunday.  Check out the downloadable guide here.

There’s even a free shuttle to get you from place to place.  Yep, free.

Cambridge Open Studios 2015

I’ll be exhibiting in the same place where I was last year, the gallery at Cambridge College at 1000 Mass Ave.  There will be music, free food and drink, and we’ll have dancers who will be demonstrating their art throughout the day as well.  We’ve also got some student artists from Cambridge Rindge and Latin showcasing their photography which is super cool.

Come on by, invite a friend or three or bring your mom.  It’s going to be a beautiful weekend.

Still thinking of Rerun

I miss him.  I miss my little buddy, and how he used to greet me every day when I come home from work.  Thumbelina still does, of course, but it’s not the same as when the pair of them would get each other all worked up and excited over things like that.

Miracles can happen

With Christmas a week away there is a lot of talk of Santa, wishes, and miracles happening.  This time of year can be tough for people who don’t have a lot or who want something special for someone else in their lives.  I feel lucky to have witnessed two really interesting and spontaneous acts of miracle making on the internet lately that have helped me to remember that there are truly good strangers out there in the world.  That’s the easiest thing to forget during this time of hustle, bustle, insanity, and chaos.

A beautiful and storied ship, part one

As many of you already know, I am a lover of history.  Maritime history is especially one of my favorite sub-fields of history, and I love to see historic ships or reproductions of historic ships at any opportunity.  I am lucky enough to live in a state (and a region) that has many.

So I went to the old Navy Yard in Charlestown on Saturday, since my back was feeling a bit better and I was feeling up to doing some walking around.  And I am so very glad I did, because for the first time ever I got to take a tour of the inside of the USS Cassin Young, one of the museum ships kept there by the National Park Service.

So a book came out this week, you may have heard…

I may have mentioned in this space that Amanda Palmer had a book publishing this week.  Geoff and I were lucky that we were able to go to the midnight book release party of of her first literary offering, The Art of Asking.  The party was on Monday night, the books were sold/picked up at midnight, and fun was had by all.  Because Geoff’s back was Behaving Badly, we weren’t able to join everyone in the concert/parade from Harvard Square to Porter Square, but we did get to meet some very cool people while we waited at Porter Square Books and sampled the hot cider.

Oh, and as Geoff mentioned here, he also got his picture taken with Neil Gaiman.

I got to meet @Neilhimself this week

One of my favorite things about living in Cambridge (and Greater Boston generally) is that I get to meet so many authors.  I have met more authors in the last five years here in Cambridge than I have over all of the rest of my life combined.  And although I have met a great many authors whose books I liked or even loved, sometimes I get to meet someone really, really great, whose work has a lot of special meaning for me.  One of my literary heroes, as it were.

I got to meet Neil Gaiman.

2nd Annual Inman Sq Harvest Hoedown Sunday 11/9/14 12-4pm

This may rank as one of the more unusual shows I’ve done to date.  Also, I know I don’t have any plaid to wear.  And I do not own cowboy boots.  But, I think it is going to be really fun.  And tasty.  Really tasty.
