I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised to see that Kevin Smith is apparently a dachshund fan. He owns a short-haired mini named Shecky. I am a fan of his work, and I have owned dachshunds forever, and yet I never knew he had a dachshund.
Geoff here – as Kelly posted earlier we had a pretty good experience at the National Urban League conference this weekend. The career fair (as they called it) was quite good, and I managed to make some good contacts for some local jobs. One HR manager we spoke to actually said she was going to hand carry my resume down to the head of the department. I would say that is a good thing. I also got some superb advice on my resume, and I am in the process of making those adjustments.
Yesterday Geoff and I went to the 2011 National Urban League Conference Job Fair. It was absolutely, hands down, the best job fair either of us has ever been to. The job fair was all of Hall A at the Boston Convention Center and was about half and half interesting vendors and people looking to hire. We had more interesting conversations with people from all over the country than I can remember having in a long, long time. Also, I got a pony.
We were on our way home from taking Thumbelina to the vet* yesterday when I spotted a couple of guys from Gentle Giant on Binney Street in Cambridge in the middle of a move. Rerun was in my lap and I pointed them out to him and we waved in our typical dorky “I have a dachshund in my lap “way. It was then that I was reminded that I’d promised the Gentle Giant folks that I would post these pictures.
Note: this does not make Geoff feel any better about it when Smoky, not pictured, actually does this. At least now we know why.
Someday soon, actual content!
They are currently offering 15% off all items in their home sale (10% off electronics) and the place setting we have registered for now includes a free matching soup bowl for a limited time. We also registered for the soup bowl and it costs $95. So, if you’re looking to shop for us for the wedding, this is a pretty good deal. Also, there is free shipping on every $99 purchase. I believe the discount code is REFRESH. Also, there is some sort of Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal on casual and fine china as well, which should, in theory, apply to our registry as well, but I don’t know any more details about that other than that the deal ends on 8/14/11. Check out macys.com for more details.
And I needed a good laugh. Then I found this.
Geoff and I have a friend who has an underpants thieving cat. I don’t know if he’d go to the extremes of a drying rack, but it’s amusing to think about. Enjoy.
Yesterday Kelly and I stayed late after our church service in order to help out with some of the yard work. I guess we needed the distraction and it was nice to do something constructive rather than something meaningless. The toughest part (and the part we were specifically asked to do) was preparing an area where a new row of hedges will soon be planted. The head of the property committee (I am a member) asked me to use the rotor tiller we keep at the church to help break up the dry, packed soil. So I did, and Kelly assisted me by raking and shoveling out all of the loose soil.
The family medical emergency has gotten a bit better, at least so far. It looks like the worst part may be over, and that Kelly and I will not have to make any sudden trips anywhere. At least so far.
So everyone that sent their kind words and prayers – thank you, very much.
We’re in the middle of a family medical emergency at the moment.
We’re in the middle of a lot of phone calls back and forth. In the middle of it all Geoff’s cell phone has decided that the speaker will no longer work. So, it will accept text messages and send them and it will work with bluetooth devices. We can use it to make calls from the car, which is bluetooth enabled, and he’s currently looking for his bluetooth headset.
If you need to get in touch with us, specifically him, PLEASE call the house or my phone. Email is also good as we’re both hooked up to the internet 24/7 right now and will be for the foreseeable future. Comments here will also be answered in all haste.
