This popped up on Boston.com today and it made me laugh. As it involves Geoff’s family’s ancestral home of New Bedford, MA I thought it worth posting here.

Official stats regarding Snowpocalypse
Well, they said this would probably be a historical storm, in regards to the intensity and snowfall amounts, and it looks like that has pretty much held up to the predictions.
It turns out that this storm ranked #5 in the top ten snowstorms in the history of Boston, with an official total of 22.5 inches for Boston. Here in Cambridge it looks like our “official” total is about 26 inches.
“That won’t happen.” Well, sometimes it does.
If you count my time in uniform, I have worked in public safety for a while. I have also worked on business continuity/disaster recovery planning committees. I am probably more well read on much of the literature than many public safety officers and government officials. I take this sort of thing quite seriously, because I know what is possible. And so when I hear people blow things off, even when experts are trying to tell them to take a particular danger or threat seriously, I get a bit frustrated.
The looming storm this weekend is a great example.

I’m going to let this stand on its own
Because it is pretty much perfect. Also, you can pretty much guess where Geoff and I fall on this one (read #1 a few times). From Boston.com’s 24-Hour Workday blog.
I’m not sure there’s much to say about this one
I usually expect stuff of this caliber to come from Etsy. This time, it’s Fab.com and their weekly Foodie email that brings the goods. There’s really nothing to add, this one stands on its own.

2012 in review
It’s that time again. WordPress has helpfully provided us with all kinds of cool stats on our blog. There are also nifty graphics and fun details about where all of you kindly readers came from, what you liked to read about, and what you searched for.
I can tell you from experience that we get a lot of people coming here looking for words like “disturbing” “sexist women” and “women comparison”. I find that a little disturbing, but if you stay for a read I suppose it’s not a bad thing?
Enjoy the WordPress report and have a safe and healthy celebration tonight. I’ll be here at home working on Etsy, enjoying an honest-to-God day off, and relaxing with the kids.
Happy New Year!

The sound of poverty
Most of us think of the sound of poverty, or of being poor, as the voice of the homeless guy who sings out his need for spare change near the subway station or the bark of the homeless dog seeking scraps for supper. For many of us this noise fades into the background of every day life.
For American the fear of poverty inches closer every day with some of the impending financial decisions our government has to make in the next few days to stave off some serious cuts that will destroy the lives of many of the poorest and many of the middle class in the country. But that’s an American problem.
Then there’s the rest of the world.
How to market the end of the world
This whole, “OMG the world is going to end on 12/21/12 !!11!!!1!”… “or maybe not” thing has made both of us a little testy. Geoff has mentioned in the past in references to other Doomsday predictions that also went nowhere that he was tempted to create Geoffrey’s Apocalyptic Passover Service, LLC.
He’s beginning to regret that he didn’t.
Christmas shopping for the young woman in your life
Looking for the right gift for the young woman in your life that isn’t pink and frilly? That’s doesn’t teach her that all princesses need to be rescued by the prince? Want her to learn more about science and bugs and that making mud pies and getting dirty is OK?
I thought so.

The evidence is in…
and clearly, the world is indeed going to end this month. Because we now know that the rapture did in fact take place.
Behold… the evidence I found in Beacon Hill yesterday.
