Teri is one of the most photogenic people I’ve ever met. She’s also incredibly good at mugging for the camera and she’ll pose with just about anything. Seriously.

And as you all know, as January ends we enter the doldrums of winter. We’re experiencing a freak break in the cold with temps in the 50’s today. But it will get freezing again. I’m still holding out hope for snow, but until then, let these stories make you smile. And, yes, I know January ends tomorrow. Nyah.

Things are a little crazy right now. We’re both pretty busy through the weekend. But last weekend I was able to attend my friend Tessa’s Bachelorette party. Like Teri and me, Tessa is also taking the plunge with her fiance, Brian, in September. (Only, you know, I married Geoff and Teri is marrying Patricio.)

…you shouldn’t have married him.” The immortal words of Teri and she’s so right.
Teri is getting married and so, like me when I was engaged, she’s getting a lot of wedding related crap via email. Today she got this.

A couple of our friends are getting married soon and so we’re back in the throes of wedding planning. Or, rather, I am as I’m assisting with stuff and things for one of the weddings. It’s nice to be working on it for someone else this time around, my experience is helpful, I can back off when necessary, and it isn’t my parents who are getting upset. 🙂
That’s why these two articles on Boston.com caught my eye.

For those of you who missed the North Carolina vote on Marriage Equality and all of the hate and vitriol that it splashed across the internet and airwaves, there is some unfortunate blow back happening now that you can do something about.

Regular readers will have noticed that I mentioned that Geoff and I missed a friend’s Very Important Play on Friday night when Smoky took ill. I emailed him to explain and apologize, but it’s never as good as being there. I know I hate it when my friends miss my performances, even when they have a really good reason. Thankfully someone was able to videotape the experience, and in HD no less.

Help me, internets, you’re my only hope. (Sorry, it was a gimme, we’ve had Episodes IV and V on since I got home from work.) Anyway, I’m reasonably good with photo editing software. I’m self taught, I can do interesting and useful things like remove items, clean up red eye, change brightness and contrast, etc. I have, however, run into a problem that I can’t solve.

This December, the first of the two new Peter Jackson films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit will be released. It will be called The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey and needless to say I can hardly wait to see it. I have been a fan of Tolkien since I was in middle school, WAY back when. I remember (and used to own) the animated versions that were put out when I was a kid. So yeah, I am totally a geek about Tolkien. And of course Kelly likes him too, else we would not have included a little Tolkien in our actual wedding ceremony. No, we did not have anyone dressed up in costume or anything*, but we did use the Song of the Entwives instead of a traditional psalm.

Last month our dear friends Teri and Patricio got engaged. I’d actually cornered Patricio at my wedding and asked him when he and Teri were going to get engaged. I think they’ve been together for approximately 6 centuries now and it was getting harder and harder for me not to refer to them as betrothed.
